wanted to share a
few pics of my booth from the last weekend's sale, Vintage with
Flair, my Vintage Chick's partner Pam put on a great sale!
I also look forward to doing The Prairie Girls
Vintage Market again this year in Cochrane, Sept. 12th, 2015. Last year was amazing so hope you can make it this year. Please pop by "all about Pretty" and say HOWDY!
I have an
interesting heritage when it comes to the family name. I was told my Great
Grandfather was originally Martin August Sallstrom but as the story goes he had
to change his name. He was on a ship with the Swedish Navy and there was a
higher ranking officer who also had the name Sallstrom so to avoid confusion they
made him change his surname, strange how they did things back then. He chose Ljunggren.
Then how did I end up a Youngren, the story continues...
the story as I have been told is that my Grandmother
Palma probably misunderstood how to spell my Grandfather's last name and spelled it phonetically, on all 7 of her children`s
birth certificates so that's how I was born a Youngren when really I'm a Ljunggren, well actually Sallstrom, WHO THE HECK AM I REALLY???
Being such a follower of Swedish design/decor and to be true to my roots I wanted to honour my heritage and tell our story. Someday I hope to travel to Sweden and learn of all the family intrigues & mysteries.
I have included a
few historical family pics, of my Grandpa Birger & his family in Sweden. I
collect & love historical pics and ephemera but these old family photos are extra special. Also included a shot of me from almost 20 years ago when I was
still young & perky, side by side with my cousin Carl Johan (on the left)
visiting from Sweden. Him & a friend rode across Canada on bikes that year. Those
crazy athletic Swedes! I unfortunately
didn't get those special genes :)
I found some vintage wood letters on a buying trip and have
finally finished using them in my latest art work. Because I found an M and two
O's I immediately realized I must paint a cow. I ended up with two cows, my
rustic MOO cow on barn wood and my FANCY cow complete with a hairbow, polka
dots and a vintage frame. They are available at la TaDa! and I will be adding
to my Etsy shop soon. I will also be offering prints of Fancy Cow.
Glad I found an M, who knows what would have happened if I had found a P :)
I know my all about Pretty! posts have not
been happening very often, (don't like the negative term bad blogger :) so
let's just say I`ve been busy in my offline life these last few years, lots of
personal things going down. After being on disability for 2 years I was laid
off my job of 16 years, you know the typical story these days, a large company
bought our technology let go of the people, so much for supporting our economy
and workers here?? Anyway I digress... with all of these happenings I've
been trying to "always~look~on~the bright side of life"
whistling~fufu~fufufufufufu yup that's as good as I can whistle:) singing that
Monty Python tune in my head as I type this.
So I decided to jump in and open my own brick
& mortar shop in Coaldale and it has been so much work that I haven't
had much time to work on my art or blog on all about Pretty! I have been
creating lots of decor items for the shop but dream of the day when I'll be
creating all day long in the studio both art & my repurposed/restyled
creations for the shop. I also hope to be teaching more and more
workshops in the evenings & weekends at la TaDa! I will start blogging more when I have new work to share.
My latest restyled shabby cabinet for
the shop using van Gogh Chalk/Furniture Paint Collection line that I carry at la TaDa! (sold)
So I just wanted to let you know I'm still
alive, working hard and I look forward to creating again and sharing my
art with you as soon as I can. THANKS SO
MUCH! to so many who are encouraging me to get back to studio as well as
supporting me personally and my shop.
Well I've been dreaming about
being able to create for a living & opening my own shop for 20 years now
and it's finally happening, thank you Jesus!!! I haven't been great at blogging
over the last couple of years, I've been though the ringer a bit - still
homesick for Vancouver after a big move to tiny Coaldale, loss of my Gramma
& great friend Marg, loss of my beloved cat Sammy, discovered my sweet dog
Bella has a heart condition, major structural damage to my home because of
flooding last spring (need a whole new foundation, my house is slowly
collapsing), recent loss of my job of 16 years after battling 2 years of major
depression & fibromyalgia and it was very hard to keep my faith through it
all but God gave me the grace to get through and He has restored my hope.
I'm excited to get back to
work as well as creating and I'm looking forward to life again!
My new shop is opening March
1st so I'm crazy busy now getting ready but I will be blogging more as I get
back to creating and will also write more details about my la TaDa!
